The Charles River Bistro: Fostering Community at the Esplanade

The Charles River Bistro just hosted their Summer Kick-off Party on June 15th, welcoming the community along the banks of the Charles River lagoon in the heart of Back Bay’s Esplanade and the Sobel team was there to get an inside look of what this season has in store.

The Bistro, whose menu boasts a wide variety of foods including New England seafood classics, fresh salads, hand pressed paninis and desserts, strives to be more than just an eatery, but rather, a destination for locals and tourists alike. Christopher Sinclair, owner and manager of The Bistro says, “We like being a community hub, and the Bistro has become a destination. We want to draw people in from all around Boston who wouldn’t have thought of coming to the Esplanade otherwise.”

Apart from its proximity to the Hatch Shell, The Bistro strives to do this by coordinating special events and programs including:

  • Sunset Yoga Series (Every Saturday through September)

  • Saturday Soul Music Brunch, featuring live soul and funk

  • Sunday Jazz Brunch, featuring live jazz duo

  • Daily gourmet sunset pre-fixe dinners (RSVP required)

  • 75 free lawn and board games (including: Frisbee, Badminton, Whiffle Ball, Football, Soccer, Chess Boards and more)

  • Free dog treats for your furry friend

  • Free library with over 200 books

  • Live music

The Charles River Bistro is also thrilled to announce that they will be serving beer & wine on select weekends and for the Hatch Shell’s Wednesday night concert series. Full service begins in July and they will feature a mixture of beers, ciders and wine, as well as sangria and mimosas.

The Bistro’s impact on the local community doesn’t stop there, as they also organize the food for the famous Fourth of July celebration at Boston’s Esplanade, which includes a performance from the Boston POPS at the Hatch Shell and a spectacular fireworks display over the Charles River.

“It’s a beautiful public park that should be utilized by and accessible to everyone,” Sinclair said. “We truly enjoy being here and hope people enjoy us being here, too.”

Be sure to head over to the Charles River Bistro during your next stroll along the Charles.
